Facebook Changes News Feed Algorithm

Facebook has recently made another adjustment to its algorithm which changes what appears in your newsfeed, meaning you're likely not seeing many of the Kensington updates (or those from other sites you follow). Here's a simple way to adjust your settings and get the posts flowing again...

The smart folks at "Cool Mom Tech" posted some, great, simple steps to follow:

1. Go to our page. Look just below the main cover photo, near the top of the page and make sure the "Liked" button is checked.

2. Mouse over the "Liked" button and be sure that "Show in News Feed" is selected.

3. In the same drop-down menu right underneath "Show in News Feed" you will see a "Settings" option. Click on that and check "All Updates."

According to the Cool Mom Tech post, the recent update has defaulted settings for your favorite pages from "All Updates" to "Most Updates", which means that you will only see a portion of the content. Making these changes should set things back to the previous feed flow.

They had one final tip:

4. The more you engage with a page—sharing, liking, commenting—the more likely you are to continue to see the updates in your own feed.

October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

10/2/2013

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), which is an annual international campaign to increase the awareness and to raise research funds for the cause, early prevention, diagnosis, treatment & cure of the disease.

Whether you're in Chicago or elsewhere in the world, you'll most likely see prominence in the color pink.  This year in the Windy City alone, the Willis Tower, John Hancock Building, Merchandise Mart, Soldier Field Stadium along with 200+ other buildings are illuminating their spires & windows in the color pink or donning banners & flags in support of BCAM.

While the cause is notably supported on a large scale, it is not without the support of smaller organizations & individuals alike.  It is important to do you part, and with that notion in mind, Kensington is donating 10% of October profits to Bright Pink, a Chicago-based non-profit organization focusing on the prevention and early detection of breast & ovarian cancer.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.  This year alone, it is expected that 200,000 women will be diagnosed & ultimately 40,000 will lose their fight to the disease.  With numbers like these, it is vital that everyone be proactive in one way or another; choose to wear pink or pin a pink ribbon to your clothing, make a donation, start an office-wide fundraising competition, and most importantly, be self aware (click here for self-awareness tools).

Tip of the Day: $1.00 Eye Make-Up Remover

PictureTear Free Baby Shampoo
My silly little secret is out!  Johnson & Johnson's Baby Shampoo is, in my humble opinion, the best way to clean your eyes of makeup thats been applied in the morning and worn all day -  - and get this, the travel size lasts for months & costs less than $1.00!

The tear-free solution is great when used to remove eyeliner (both pencil & liquid), eyeshadow & mascara (yes, even the fussy water-proof kind).  I figure, if its soft enough for innocent infants, it should be a-okay on my jaded eyes (and it is, I've used it for years)!

Either use this product straight from the bottle, or mix with a small portion of water.  Apply a tiny drop of the solution to a q-tip or atop your finger tip & rub lightly around the eye.  After a short period of lathering, wash the solution away.  The end result = sparkling clean eyes that are as soft as a baby's bottom!

tip of the day: Wax Paper for Your Closet

9/7/2013

Don't you hate when your hangers won't slide across the bar in your closet, thus clothes fall off and can sometimes tear?  Its the worst! Well, if you can relate, need not fret . . .we've got your solution!
Wax Paper
Wax paper.  Yep, THAT wax paper; the one you have in your kitchen.  Simply grab a piece (I'd suggest approx. 8.5" x 11"), wad it up in a ball (waxy side out), and rub it along the top of your closet rod (back & forth a few times).  This will coat your closet rod with a thin layer of wax and cause your hangers to slide blissfully along the bar.

Please note that this works best on metal closet rods.  Unfortunately this application does not work for rubber coated rods.
